Métis Trail

A Métis Journey — Fort Garry to Fort Edmonton, 1878
June 15th, 1878. Fort Garry behind you. Five hundred and sixty-seven miles ahead.

The Carlton Trail to Edmonton runs through prairie, river crossings, and rough ground. You've got until November before the snow comes and the trail disappears.

Your cart's loaded: pemmican, tools, bison hides, beaver pelts. Good money at Edmonton if you get there.

One food per day. Cart wears down every mile. The rivers run high in June and there's nothing to forage on the open grass.
How to play: Each turn is one day. Click Travel 1 Day to advance along the trail. You'll consume 1 food per day. Events will test your crew's skill — choose wisely.

When you reach a settlement, you can Trade goods for supplies, Repair your cart, or Rest to recover. Use Make Camp on the trail to rest and do field repairs.

Win: Reach Fort Edmonton with at least 1 trade good and your cart still rolling.
Lose: Run out of food, let your cart break down completely, or let winter catch you on the trail.

On sources: This game draws on primary sources from the 1860s–1900s. Some quotes use terms that were common in period writing but are offensive today. These are shown in their original form for historical accuracy. Where a quote's language may be jarring, we've added a brief context note.
